I recently have had significant back surgery and also during found a very large blood clot in my other leg due to inactivity while waiting for my surgery I bought the unit and I am using it as a suggestion from my surgeon and physical therapist to help track my progress in learning to walk again and eventually other activities as I grow stronger the one major piece that I am missing is the ability to make personal notes on a daily basis not only for normal bodily functions which is a little embarrassing to mention but also about pain and other things that I feel during my various activities .... The ability to put personal notes in the mobile side of your app would be unbelievably helpful that way all my information is located in the same place for review not only by myself but by the medical professionals who are going to be helping me for the next four months during my recovery. I have the feeling that even healthy people using your products would find the ability to add daily notes and extremely helpful addition to your already wonderful product.

@tricia you might want to add your vote to the feature request at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Notes-on-online-and-app-dashboard/idi-p/905512
Or the request to add notes to workouts at https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Notes-For-Workouts/idi-p/1279247
The feature request site is where Fitbit users can make suggestions for the Fitbit developers. The Hardware forums are for the Fitbit users to help out Fitbit users, and we as users are unable to do any developments.

I have voted for this as well, however, a "journal" option for just what you are asking used to be available on the Fitbit app and it was removed (September 2015, I think). Since Fitbit used to have that, and took it away, I am guessing they won't be putting it back, sadly.
