New user, questions about Blaze

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just bought a Blaze and I have some questions. First I question accuracy. It had me almost 1/4 mile more than my treadmill yesterday. I was running, but on the treadmill so I chose treadmill. Tonight when walking I know we were close to 3 miles and my Blaze only had us at 1.85. Tonight I put it on treadmill even though I was outside. There is no option to choose walking as a workout so I wasn't sure which to choose. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed.

I also don't like how I can't see previous workouts on the actual watch. App, yes-not watch. Is there a way to do this? I guess I thought after reading the box I'd be able to see the same things on the watch that you can see in the app? Can j do this? I also feel the battery doesn't have that long of a life. I charged it overnight Sunday into Monday and started wearing it yesterday morning and now I'm already only 2/3 full.

Any help is appreciated. Hoping this helps change my mind about keeping it.

I'll try and answer a few of your questions.
Firstly, treadmills tend not to be very accurate distance-wise as your gait tends to be different from walking on solid ground and can affect the sensors (yes there is a treadmill optin but it's still not brilliant). Also if you hold the bars while walking, again it stops the sensors detecting a step.

There is a Walk activity in exercise. If it's missing from your list you may need to add it to the list of available activities from your settings screen.

Battery life can be varied, especially when new, and is very much dependent on how much you look at the screen, which you tend to do a lot of when it's new. Also the battery gauge isn't linear, so don't worry too much about it showing 2/3 so soon. It can stay at that level a while.

@NewToBlaze to add walking, through the app, tap the Blaze, then tap it again. Scroll down to exercise shortcuts.

As for the distance measured by the Blaze while on a treadmill, as @SunsetRunner states, the Blaze has no way o measure distance. It calulaes it. Steps times strde equals distance.

As for walking oaks,  where you using gps.

Hello @NewToBlaze welcome to the Fitbit Community! 🙂  You can add up to seven activities to your exercise shortcuts on the Blaze, the available exercises are:

To change this you just need to go to your tracker's settings, add the exercises you want on your display, click on save and then sync your tracker for the changes to be applied.

Regarding your question about the accuracy on the treadmill, treadmills can be a bit tricky sometimes, with differences in measurement methods, holding of the rails inhibiting arm movement, etc. I'd recommend taking a look at these two help articles for looking at accuracy with steps in distance. Also you can see the information from your previous workouts on your mobile app or Online Dashboard, currently it's not possible to view them in the tracker. You can add this idea to the Feature Request board.

The battery life of your tracker depends on your interaction with it. You can find some Tips to maximize the battery life of your Blaze please try them and if your Blaze's battery life is not lasting as expected after that, don't hesitate to reach out to our support team so they can take a look at your tracker's back-end information and provide you the appropriate troubleshoot.

@Rich_Laue and @SunsetRunner thanks for your amazing cooperation! 🙂

@NewToBlaze I was also frustrated with the distance measured while running on the treadmill.  I now have mine worked out.

I first changed my stride by doing several test measurements outside in my driveway doing 10 walking steps and 10 running strides.  Measured and changed in my profile.

It was better but not perfect.  So I then decided to use the data from 3 of my treadmill runs where I knew exactly how far I ran.  I figured out my stride using the formula below.  When I did this for 3 runs I could see how close my stride was each time.  I then adjusted my running stride in my profile again.  It's almost perfect now!  I hope this helps you.

I suggest using at least 3 completed treadmill runs from your dashboard.

Stride = (# of miles x 5280)/ steps

 3 miles x 5280 = 15,840 / 4,829 steps (found in the impact section of the exercise)

Stride = 3.28
