Phantom Workout?

I just got a fitbit blaze and I love it! However, I do think there have been some questionable readings on adding up steps, but the one bug I know I hit was a time where it went into a phantom workout when I took it off after my walk. I didn't turn it off and when I put it back on a few hours later it said I was burning calories off the charts since about when I took it off. Now my calorie balance is off about 4000 calories for today. It spiked at 366 calories every 15 minute increment for nearly 3 hours while I was doing computer work and taking a rest while not wearing it. I'd love to say I burned nearly 8000 calories today, but it just ain't true! 😉

If the heart rate was set to "ON" it might have been detecting the light and I have seen that raise the heart rate reading significantly. My guess is that it it still possible when set to "auto" but off your wrist the changes in light make it turn back on. My suggestion is to check the heart rate setting and if you know you are going to take it off for a long period, perhaps change the setting to "off" and then remember to turn it back on when you put it on again.

Hello @Norcaljesse welcome to the Fitbit Community! 🙂  Sometimes the vibrations near the tracker can make it record false activity. Turning off the heart rate as @SunriseGirl suggested is a great idea to avoid this from happening. Also you can delete the calories burned and the steps recorded during that time, to do so just:

- Log into your fitbit.com dashboard.
- At the top of the screen click Log > Activity.
- Find the data you want to negate by selecting a date range.
- In the activity menu, type in "Driving" and enter the duration and start time.
- Click Log Activity. Your steps, floors, and calories burned will decrease for the time period you specified.

Let me know if you have any questions! 🙂
