I have the most up to date app and my iphone is up to date as well. Yesterday, my sleep stages tracked, but last night it did not. I've restared the Fitbit, the phone, installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled. Nothing worked. Any idea how to fix?

I also don't think it has anything to do with all-day sync, since I don't have mine on and my stages worked again last night. The only different thing I've been doing is not manually logging my sleep (so not pressing on 'start sleep now'. Instead I just go to sleep and two mornings in a row it's worked. I'm skeptical that this is the fix, but we'll see how long it lasts!

2 nights of tightening my wristband here, too, and it worked. It really must be the HR monitoring. Maybe it's too sensitive to interruptions, so it has to be tight.

Third update. I don't do anything besides go to sleep at night. I wake up and check my stats.
-8 days of flawless new sleep stages
- Wednesday reverts back to old format
-Thursday it's back to sleep stages
-Thursday evening I fell asleep watching a movie for 28 minutes and the nap is recorded in old format
-Friday morning it's back to sleep stages
Glitchy and unreliable. Completely random in how it records. No reason why it should work flawlessly for 8 days then the next 4 recordings flip flop back and forth when I'm doing the same as I've always done.

Mine worked for the second night in a row last night. I again wore my tracker like they suggest for exercise (up a little higher, and a little tighter). I went back to syncing to my iPad, and yet it still worked last night, so chances are that's not the issue either. I'm hoping it will work at least some of the time, but I know that this feature can be buggy at times, and so it's definitely not a guarantee.

Same here with my Blaze sometimes it tracks sleep the old way and sometimes it tracks the various stages..... I'm not sure why ...... any official word from FitBit on this?

I doubt snug-ness has anything to do with it; at least for me. It's on the next to smallest hole (small wrist but large band) and a tug, push, or pull to the band doesn't allow movement. I get HR data any time I look at the device or in the app. If I was excerising, I'd cinch it down to that tightest hole- the sweating starts to make the band slide otherwise. But to sleep in? That last hole is too tight. When I take the Blaze off in the morning I can see the imprint on my wrist where the device sat.
I think it's just an annoying software glitch. I've given up at this point. I've only once seen the new stages- otherwise it's old stages. all this time. Doesn't matter if I activate sleep or not. Doesn't matter with all day sync or not. Doesn't matter with app running in background or not. It just plain doesn't work.

In addition to wearing it tight enough, though not too tight for it to get any heart rate reading at all, you might want to try wearing it up a little higher, like you do for exercise (for which the instructions say to wear it 2-3 finger widths above the wrist bone). I agree the feature has some bugs with it though, and seems to be very sensitive.

I updated my Fitbit yet again, and it is now working.

Doing that already- I wear the band 2 finger widths below the wrist bone.
