I have the most up to date app and my iphone is up to date as well. Yesterday, my sleep stages tracked, but last night it did not. I've restared the Fitbit, the phone, installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled. Nothing worked. Any idea how to fix?

I just did a chat with customer support. The only thing Jeffrey could suggest, that I hadn't already done, was to restart it. Needless to say, I'm not encouraged. I told him it would be nice if Fitbit would just admit there's a problem and that they were working on a fix. He pretty much avoided that comment. He said that he's had people call in with the same problem as me, but that they've been able to fix it with the "suggestions" he gave me.

Hey there-
I had the same issue, but one night I decided to not tell my Fitbit I was going to sleep, and it tracked my sleep stages! So now every time I tell it I'm sleeping it just does the regular tracking, however if I don't tell it, it does the REM, deep, light, etc. stages.
Hope this helps!

the customer support dude DID say that if you tell the app you're going to sleep, it won't track your stages of sleep. However, I have NO idea how to tell my fitbit I'm going to sleep, so this can't be the problem for me lol!

Well that's a bummer!! I had no idea that I wasn't supposed to tell it I was sleeping to get the stages. But maybe it's the opposite for you?? If you go to the sleep tracker on the app, there is plus sign in the top right hand corner to add a sleep log. Click that and then a new screen will pop up where you can click a button that says going to sleep!

I had no idea that option was even available! He specifically told me NOT to use it. The two times my sleep stages were tracked, I did absolutely nothing except fall asleep. Which is how it's supposed to work.

Update. I thought that my sleep stages had magically cured itself because I had 10 nights in a row that it worked properly. I say it was magic because I did nothing different to make it work, it just started working on its own....
But, last night it reverted to the old format, again, magically.
Arrrrgh.

No no no.
That cannot be true.
There is no magic involved in Fitbits.
It is clearly you that made it work and then made it not work again.
If you ask Mr Fitbit he will tell you that you did one or more of the following
A) wore it in the wrong place
B ) took it off at some point in the previous 48 hours
C) slept the wrong way (laying on your arm, upside down, in a bed)
D) told the app you were going to sleep
E) not told the app you were going to sleep
F) breathed
The other reason may be that the little elf inside the fitbit got the job right for 10 days but then went on holiday leaving his deputy in charge.

My Alter HR has done exactly the same thing and I didn't do anything different last night to the previous 2 nights. Very frustrating!

I've had my Alta hr for 9 days. First 8 days it tracked my sleep stages. Last night it tracked my sleep but in the old format I used to get it I used my One overnight??!! I've done nothing different!

Its not a specific device issue right now. I have a Charge 2 and my device started tracking Sleep Stages 5/3/17, and abruptly stopped with last night's tracking. Today (5/19/17) its just showing me the old Sleep Pattern. I really hope Fitbit gets it together and fixes the issue, the Sleep Stages feature really helped me understand my own rest needs.

I find it very interesting that fitbit are not responding to any of this now. They have gone from offering ridiculous answers that blame their customers for using their devices wrongly, to closing threads so they don't have to listen to the problem. They are now ignoring the problem.
Good one Fitbit.
Customer service at its best.
BTW my husband and I now have our Blaze and Charge working with sleep stages virtually all the time. One or two blips but definitely better since we stopped using the app but clearly not sorted.

I've been using sleep stages on my Blaze since it has come out. Worked every single night without fail. 4 days ago I got a new iPhone 7 plus. Sleep stages continued to work. 2 days ago I updated iOS to the latest. That night it went back to the old sleep tracking mode. I uninstalled the app and re-installed it and did nothing else and it's back to tracking stages.
Regarding the Blaze in general. I've used mine every day and every night for about 14 months now. My battery lasts 3+ days, my HR is generally accurate and it never fails to communicate with my phone. It has given me more insight to my health and exercise than any device I've owned to date. I was satisfied the way it arrived a year ago and now for no added cost I have interesting sleep stages. Fitbit could have rolled that out in Blaze II. I'm hooked.
As I've read, uninstall/re-install won't fix everybody so I hope FitBit figures it out so the rest of you can get back on the discovery train. Good luck.

I was given the Alta HR on Saturday for my birthday so have been avidly tracking my sleep (pregnancy + hot nights is showing I don't sleep much!!) for the last few nights - first 4 nights (Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues) no problem, and I recharged it Tuesday early evening. This morning (Thursday) I've just woken up and it's doing sleep pattern not sleep stages.. seems like a common problem though but hope they fix it soon!!

Was anyone able to fix the problem?
I just got a charger 2 and sleep stages worked the first night but the second & third have just been the old awake vs asleep which is a bit unreliable! One of the reason I updated from the flex was for the sleep stages feature
