Turn off Sleep Stages?

Is there any way to turn off the new sleep stages?

I like the idea of seeing the time I spent in each of the stages, but this new method is recording me as asleep for far longer than I actually am. At least with the old system, setting to "sensitive" gave me a more realistic approximation for overall time asleep.

My goal is 6 hours, which is rare for me to get, and with the sleep stages, I'm now getting over 7 hours easily ... would be nice, but it's not true 😞

Mine just stopped working, so maybe that will happen to you.   Unfortunately I like the stages and wished it worked.

I would like it to work too. Until it's actually working properly though, I'd accept being able to turn it off.

It's great to welcome you @Kalakian and @Linky1234. Regarding to your inquiry, no, there isn't an option to turn off sleep stages. I took the liberty and searched for a request like but didn't find any, you can visit our feature suggestions board and share your opinions.

Now about sleep stages, I recommend taking a look at this post, where our friend @FerdinandFitbit is providing a really good explanation about this feature.

Ugh I have the same problem. As an insomniac the sleep stages are useless to me as it records me asleep for twice what I actually am.I can't believe that there isn't s way to turn it off. It makes it almost useless to me.

I have this problem too.  I know I was awake on several occasions (and actually got up to the bathroom) but my Blaze has recorded me as in light sleep in the sleep stages.  It was much more accurate before, I'm down as having had just over 6 hours sleep last night, when I know it was under 4!  Would like to know how to turn this feature off.

Ugh I have the opposite problem. It tracks shorter so my goal of seven hours is never reached if I get eight hours it says seven if I get seven it says six. It always subtracts an hour of sleep from each night with the stupid sleep stages

Welcome to the Community @Jaycey! It's pretty weird that's not tracking all your sleep hours. You may want to check the sleep stages information, to learn more about how your sleep will be tracked. Would you mind sharing an screenshot of the data that you're getting?

Note: Your Blaze will track your sleep after one hour, when it doesn't detect movement.

Keep me posted.

I have noticed periods of what I believe I'm awake but in the end I have accepted that some of the time I had actually dozed off. At my age, and being male, there are bathroom breaks which Fitbit records accurately. But after one of those, for example it will be about 4am, you flick the radio on for the news, listen, turn it off, and then toss around thinking and contemplating trying to go back to sleep.

Suddenly, it's 6-30am, and what I thought was predominately awake time is actually periods of sleep.

I want to know more about Fitbit's interpretation of HRV because all they say they are using that method of Heart Rate Variability with our HR to determine the level of sleep. I know I have had decent sleep because I feel refreshed, and since Fitbit introduced this method of sleep stages I started investigating after checking with @Dominique who had been using this method for his training. So I went out and purchased my Polar H7 chest strap which Bluetooths to my phone..

I now periodically use an App Elite HRV with my Polar H7 on awakening. That data is exported for Kubios Standard to use (all free) and I get these results. The 4th image shows the message you see and the higher the HRV shows the tone of your body. When the HRV value is low you get a message saying "take it easy today and ease into your activities".

There is a wealth of data and I'm still trying to digest it. This all keeps my engineering brain active..Smiley Happy)  Many won't agree with what I do, but I always want to know my baselines and what Fitbit are measuring. We all know they are not medical devices, but to have an appreciation of the approach helps you keep a health mind and body.

Thanks for your advice @Colinm39

Hey @Jaycey! I appreciate the screenshot. Sleep stages are traditionally measured in a lab using an electroencephalogram to detect brain activity along with other systems to monitor eye and muscle activity. While this method is the gold standard for measuring sleep stages, your tracker can estimate the time spent in each stage in a more comfortable, convenient way. Have you checked the sleep stages post

Hope this helps.

Well if turning off the sleep stages feature is impossible, is there a way we can edit it? Then I could remove some of the hour it says I'm awake for and make it a little more accurate

It's great to have you here @Jeanmarielighth and @Jaycey!

@Jeanmarielighth Could you provide me with more details about the issue you're experiencing with sleep stages? Have you checked this sleep stages post?

@Jaycey Yes, you can edit your sleep hours. However, it will let you edit just the hours you were sleeping not exactly the time you spent in each stage.

Hope this helps!

Hi. I've turned off sleep stages by turning off the heart rate function when I go to sleep. Sleep stages won't work with out heart rate so the sleep graph will be displayed in the old format.

How do you turn off heart rate at night? Thanks.

Hi. I am using the IOS app and the Blaze. In the app setting go to ACCOUNT - BLAZE - HEART RATE - OFF. Then turn it back on the AUTO in the morning.

Great, thanks! I hope they come up with a way to turn off sleep stages as it is a pain to turn heart rate on and off.

Have a great day!

The same on Android with the Blaze but remember to sync or go into settings on the Blaze and turn HR off and auto there.

@LilZee05 Why don't you just edit the sleep tile out of the Dashboard, take your tracker off at night and as an added bonus you will conserve battery. Unless there are other reasons with your sleep data.

Have a great day
