The setup of all fitbit devices is generally the same. But yes, you need to charge it first before you set it up.

Ok so ... There are no instructions for this thing. It wont go off set up. What the hell man? A device that I pay 250 for should have something with it cuz even the very first device i bought had this. I looked on youtube which is ridiculous i even have to look there for it but i did...all i see is charging to a computer can you charge with a usb prong plug? Why cant I see the battery showing and only see fitbit.com/setup? I am very tired and grouchy, tired and had a bad day and trying to not blow over this but a device almost 300 bucks should have a few more instructions like any ya know? Please help.

@NikkiiBaby Here is the link for the Blaze area where you'll find the manual and related articles - click
If you can wait until the morning, you can call and a Fitbit representative can talk you through the set up process. Contact customer support at this link - click
There is a phone number for the USA, an online chat option and web based email for those out of the area.
They'll get you going. You'll be just fine.

As for the battery icon, with a little search of this forum you would find that the unit has to be setup first.

No it needs to be charged before you can set it up. So make sure to put the charger in the USB Port and set your pebble into the charge housing

except so everyone knows you cant tell if its charging until you set it up lol. I have not had a fit bit since the first one. Elf instructions and nothing else in box didnt help. However...I got hold of a great CS person. Helped me get it started and I love it. I feel it is very accurate compared to a chest strap HRM.

I got mine for christmas and I don't recall the setup being much of a pain. I put the device inside the charging base, then left it plugged into a USB port for a couple of hours and then I set it up with the fitbit app... pretty easy

I got my blaze a few weeks ago, yes it has the setup screen on by default. Fitbit.com/setup it says by default.
Just put it in the cradle for 2 hours and it will be fully charged. Yes it won't display the battery icon, but we don't need it to.
Next step is to add the blaze to your Fitbit app as a new device, from here just follow the steps. A firmware upgrade will be required as part of the process, or at least it was with mine.
If you really get stuck call Fitbit.

@NikkiiBaby it will charge before it is set up, there will not be a battery indicator until it is setup.
You will feel a vibration when the tracker is connected and charging.
