Let's look at the phone @JudeKnight, since I see you posted from a Windows phone, this is where the the culprit is.

Windows is not compatible with the connected GPS or notifications yet.

Microsoft is working on the problem from their end and has promised the needed software will be added in early 2017. See @DerrickS's post here.
