I recently purchased a fitbit blaze from craigslist. The side buttons do not work. The unit is clean, and I can hear and feel the side buttons actuating when they are pressed. I have read several places that this is actually a software issue, not a hardware issue, and I tend to believe that. A replacement was already sent to the previous owner, so, fitbit really doesnt care to deal with the problem. I know from my knowledge of electronic devices that this device would fix itself if there was some way to do a reset with it without using the side buttons which are non-functional from the software glitch, or, if there was a way to force the blaze to reinstall the current firmware onto it. It seems as though there is a reason why fitbit does not have an option available to fix this. Any thoughts or fixes would be wonderful.

Purchasing from Craig's list is not covered under warranty.
I'm really sorry you bought a dud. But you really are on you own on this

First of all, I know that buying from craigslist does not honor the warranty and I wasn't asking them to give me a new one. Although any company that stands behind their product would still provide support.
Second, its isn't a dud. It still functions, its just the buttons don't work.
Third, if you do not work for FITBIT, I do not think that you should be speaking for the company when you are telling me that I am on my own. Since you live in the "contact support and they'll send you another REFURBISHED one" bubble, you have no idea the cooperative of people on the internet that actually work together to find solutions to things. I was merely asking for advice on if anybody had figured out a solution.......I wasn't asking you to tell me to contact support for a new one. There is a KNOWN issue with this particular device that they are aware of and have found it to be cheaper to just send out ONE REFURB to owners, than to fix the issue.
Lastly, I feel as though in your infinite wisdom that you feel you have the authority to speak DOWN to me like I am an uneducated idiot. You have no idea what my education is, what my IQ is, or what I do for a living. I have 8 US and European patents. How many do YOU have? EXACTLY
So, enjoy whatever life it is that you have, because it cant be very much if you do nothing but respond to messages on here in your free time.

They don't always send a refurbiched unit.
A restart is explained in the user manual and in the help site.
Hold in tge left and lower right buttons.
If that foesnt work tgen letting the battery completely die might.
Just a note, the Blaze stay on gor several hours after the screen wont respond.

You could also try a shutdown through the settings menu.
Since you heard som have fixed it with a hard restart, did you do a search?

Did you try swiping the blaze screen all the way until you see settings and then tap on that and then scroll up to where is says Shutdown tap and then shutdown?
