solution: Missing sleep stages

I had switched to a Blaze from a Surge so I could see the sleep stages.

Sleep stages showed up for the first 2 days and then disappeared.

I think I found a solution that works for me. It may not work for you.

My problem is that I wake up 2 - 4 times during the night, get out of bed for a few minutes and then return to sleep. The FitBit algorithms were not working.

Here is the solution that works for me. Read below for why I think it is working.

Solution: When I wake up, I remove the Blaze from my wrist before i get out of bed. When I return from the bathroom, I put on the Blaze and go back to sleep. In the morning, I now see sleep stages. I still have to edit online because the Blaze tools think I went to sleep around 3 AM when I actually went to sleep around 1 AM.

I think this is why it works based on what I have read on this discussion board. Some of the threads are not stating the Fitbit algorithms precisely. I think the Fitbit algorithms work like this:

1. The Blaze automatically recognizes sleep when it sees no steps for at least 1 hour.

2. Sleep stages are only displayed it the Blaze sees at least one 3+ hour period when there are zero steps.

As to point 2, other posters have said that the Blaze needs to see at least 3 hours of sleep before it shows sleep stages. On the days, I did not see sleep stages, it would say I slept 6+ hours total. I think it is more accurate to say that sleep stages need at last one sleep segment that is at least 3 hours long. Total sleep of 3+ hours does not count.

Why do I think my solution works?

By leaving the Blaze, off my wrist and in bed while I get up, I think the Blaze sees no steps and thinks I am still asleep. I was often getting up every 2 hours or so and this would not trigger the sleep stages.

The downside to leaving the Blaze in bed while I get up is that it over counts my total sleep time. It does not matter for me since I am usually out of bed for less than 5 minutes at a time. One day when I tried this, I was awake and reading in another room for about 30 minutes. The Blaze did not record that "awake" time and I saw sleep stages in the morning.

Has anyone tried my suggestions?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I also changed heart rate from "auto" to "on".
