Seemingly battery failure and thermal runaway

Have a Fitbit Charge 4: to the best of my recollection; the device has operated satisfactorily since April, till the last day or so. If I recall correctly I had the device on charge last night, when I removed it, I noticed it hadn't charged last night and was about at 80%. This morning I received an email that the device was getting low. So I put it on charge, about an hour later I came to get the device off of charge and it was hot but dead. So I suspect a charge circuit failure and/or a battery failure with mild/moderate thermal runaway.

So suspect there might be some quality control issues and possibly a fire hazard.

Despite the device getting warm/moderately hot there is no outward sign of heat damage.

On subsequent charge attempts, the display does not light and the device gets warm. Taking the device out of service and considering it dead and unsafe.

December 18, 2021 at 11:36 AM Eastern; I handed a labeled packaged Fitbit (minus wrist strap) with the charge connection as directed by a Fitbit representative.

On January 7, 2022 at about 7:20 PM Eastern; I called Fitbit because I wasn't receiving any destination tracking information. I was told the package wasn't due to the Fitbit destination until January 13.

January 28, 2022 I contacted Fitbit via chat, and was told that they still had not received the package and I wouldn't be sent a new one until they received and processed the package.

I feel an unreasonable amount of time has passed, that a replacement device should be shipped immediately.

Have been waiting about a month and a half for a warranty replacement.

About two months ago my Fitbit Charge 4 didn't seem to accept a charge. So I tried charging it again, it was hot after attempting a charge, the device didn't work anymore. Subsequent attempts had the same results. I wanted a working device and was concerned that it might be a fire hazard. When I contacted warranty I was told to return the device minus the wrist strap, but to include the charging cord. I was told that I would be shipped a warranty replacement when they received my device.
