Calories burned doesn't take into consideration non-exercise activity

I am hoping someone can help me understand something that is different with my new Charge 5 (compared to previous versions).

In the past, calories burned included BMR calories, logged exercise calories, AND my "regular" activity for the day (aka steps). But now, my very active day only shows the two hours I was in the gym as calories burned and, for the rest of the day, just the BMR calories.

What am I missing here? Or is this how the Charge 5 works now? Is there a setting I just missed that I need to turn on?

First, to clarify, steps in themselves are not a direct factor in calorie burn.  Calorie burn is based on heart rate.  Steps are a factor only in that they raise your heart rate.

You mention "logged exercise" specifically.  Does that mean you manually log your exercise sessions after the fact, instead of using the on-wrist Exercise App?  If so, your situation could be explained by you accidentally having "heart rate" turned off.  That would default to BMR except for the time for which you manually logged your gym time.  Heart Rate can be turned on or off in Settings on Charge 5.

Slightly off-topic, I recommend using the Exercise App on the Charge 5 to record your workouts in real time as they happen, rather than manually logging them after the fact.  When you manually log a workout afterward, it overrides all the data that was actually recorded with whatever parameters you input logging it.  It is as if Fitbit is assuming the reason you are manually logging it is because you were not wearing your Fitbit during the workout.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
