Charge 5 Battery Breakdown

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Coming up to 2 years, and this Charge 5 is completely breaking down. The battery is failing hard and providing erratic charging data to the point of impossible to use. Funny thing is I had similar experience with the Charge 3, luckily that one lasted bit longer but eventually gave up. For context, I wear it daily around the office and home and uses Fitbit at the gym pretty normal stuff.  Tried every trick here and there addressing the issues with customer support to no avail but was given a 35% discount code on my next purchase. But not sure if i want to continue supporting a brand that produces products with such short shelf life. Has anyone else had similar experience?

My husbands Charge 5 is also, and quite suddenly, losing battery power, as well as functional properties. He's unable to switch screens. Two years seems to be the norm for sustainability. Quite disappointing.

After 18 months, I'm getting a black screen and/or battery life less than a day. Problems started about 5 months ago, just out of warranty. Looking around, this seems to be a common problem.

Welcome to the Fitbit community forums @Fit_Bitter @GAF1. It's good to see you around @SunsetRunner

I appreciate all this information that you've shared about the inconvenience that you've been having with your Charge 5.

Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleIn addition, try to perform a restart following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end if the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Using an SpO2 clock face (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

the battery on my charge 5 drains very quickly because the red light on the back of the device suddenly does not go off, thereby causing the battery to rapidly deplete. This just started happening yesterday.

Mine has been doing this since the last update.  I have followed the advice and pressed the button on the charger

i wouldn’t mind but I charges it to 100% yesterday morning and then got a critical charge email this morning at 5.19am then it was dead when I woke up.  Put it on the charger and it immediately after turning itself back on told me it had 69% charge.

I also had the same issue with the charge 3 - I don’t think I will be buying another one when this one dies I will just rely on my Apple Watch - which is a shame because the charge 5 is the perfect size for being able to track netball where I can’t wear a wristband
