My Fitbit Charge 5 is less than 2 years old. About three weeks ago its charge time dropped from 5 - 6 days to less than 24 hours. On-line advice was to restart and update firmware. Once this was done the battery life dropped to below one hour. As such, it is unusable and I am vey disappointed with the product. I suffer from atrial fibrillation and used the device to track my heartbeat. Looks like I need a new device. Based on the amount of support provided by Fitbit to others with the same problem (i.e. nothing), I obviously won't be seeking a Fitbit product.

HI, @KezzaBear, welcome to the community, you should not be having this experience. Your starting point should be to review this article Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life? - Fitbit Help Center I appreciate it does not directly address your cliff edge loss of battery reserve but the overall principle that usage dictates battery drain is correct. In particular, make sure GPS is disabled. It's a sad fact that small-form wearable batteries have a limited number of charge/discharge cycles before they degrade, the warranty time limit will depend on where you bought your device and who sold it to you.
Note this thread Charge 5 battery draining quickly after the update - Page 5 - Fitbit Community
You tell us your Charge 5 is less than 2 years old, What's Fitbit's return and warranty policy? - The Fitbit Help Center explains the details of recovery under the warranty. You will need to talk to "Customer Support", I recommend using the chat facility or phone for a prompt response. It's a good move to make notes of what you have tried & the results so you can brief the agent accurately.
I hope this helps.
Cheers
