Two weeks ago my Fitbit Charge 5 screen went blank. A couple of days later it came back on and worked until a couple of days ago when it went blank again. The app reports that it is still tracking. I attempted the pulse reset but it only displayed the Fitbit logo momentarily and that was it. Oh! I noticed yesterday that the watch appeared to be updating (during the time of the black screen). I could see a progress bar so I set the watch down and left it. I have no idea whether it completed the update. Either way, the watch is currently still displaying nothing.

Unfortunately based on the general consensus over the past couple of days....your device has retired

What does that (retired) mean? The device is dead?

My Fitbit Charge 5 went "dead with a black/blank screen" yesterday after constantly vibrating for 30 minutes. I then plugged it in to recharge it. Now it is "constantly vibrating when I have it charging" (while the screen remains black). I tried the "three button sequence" and it seem to do something, but it is not working properly. It is still continuously vribrating. When I disconnect the charging wire, it continues vibrating for about 30 minutes, then goes blank again. (I think it simply is vibrating until the battery wear down again.) The screen remains black/blank. I also tried turning bluetooth on and off. Nothing happened! Any ideas?

Sad news. It served me well to be fair. I still feel slighted, though. I kept my watch in impeccable condition and am I to understand that an update is what caused the watch to "retire"?

If this was a software update, how did the software "get into" the watch? (I connect it to power to recharge; I do not connect it to the Internet, do I? Is software transfered / updated via Bluetooth?) If this was a software update to the App, then it is likely that this is an error / glitch that they will be corrected soon. No one wants to buy another version of a product that failed after only 19 months! I like the Charge 5, but I would never buy another Fitbit if this product failure is permanent or it I am not given a replacement. I did not misuse the product.

Actually when updating the device, its a firmware update. And that is done through the App via Bluetooth.
