Charge 5 HR reading issue

I can't quite figure out the HR readings with my Charge 5. I upgraded from the Inspire HR where I never seemed to have an issue. The charge 5 readings are very erratic and never seen right. My resting HR with the the Inspire was always 39 to 40. The charge 5 has me at 45. I've done a few tests with the ECG monitor where my HR on the main screen when sat and not moving is showing 60. The ECG gives me 38 to 40 and inconclusive (which I expect as it's under 50 which is what I would expect my main screen to show).

I have had a few occasions on long steady runs (10 mile) where my HR normally sits at around 135 to 140 to suddenly ramp up to 180 - 210 when no extra effort has been put in. I've never had this on my inspire HR ever. I literally have to stop for it then to rapidly drop to to 115 from above 180. It seems like the readings are way out, especially when compared to the ECG readings when relaxing. I also wear the strap tight rather than loose.

Hi, welcome back to the Community forums, @SunsetRunner.

Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with your Charge 5 and that you already tried a few troubleshooting steps.

Before considering other options, I recommend that you try restarting the device using the three pulse restart method mentioned here below, instead of the restart option found on the Charge 5 itself:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times, pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

In addition, please follow the instructions in this article to improve the accuracy of heart rate information and check the information mentioned here about other factors that could affect your heart rate reading, this has been useful to other users who have experienced something similar.

Hope this helps, I'll be around.

This didn't work by the way. I've attached 2 pics as an example.  Fitbit shows HR as 54.  I take an ECG reading literally 2 seconds after taking the 1st pic, ECG result comes back as inconclusive with by HR at 44 bpm - 10 beats slower than what the Fitbits main screen is showing.PXL_20220128_133507715.MP.jpgPXL_20220128_133600858.MP.jpg
