Charge 5 - Reconnecting GPS during exercise

I start a bike ride using dynamic GPS and have a good connection via phone. Recording begins no problem.

 

Part way through the ride I pause the activity and go to cafe. During the cafe stop GPS is lost.

 

After the cafe I resume the activity. However, GPS shows a red icon and it does not attempt to reconnect.

 

I would expect GPS to attempt reconnection as I am now outside with good signal. 

 

My current workaround is to stop the activity and start a new one. This then reconnects GPS but I have two activities that I then need to merge later, which is not ideal.

 

Is it possible to force a reconnection to GPS on resuming an activity?

Had same issue- when 'connected connection' is lost, there are no attempt to re-establish it...disappointing, especially considering that it get lost every time

I have the exact same issue. I go on runs, the gps is set to dynamic, but when it loses connection with the phone, stops trying and the gps arrow also turns red, plus it doesn't switch to watch gps.

It has been so awful to run with this watch, because I have to restart the run multiple times, to keep on getting the GPS.

When I contact the support, they are no help at all. I upgraded from the charge 3 and it is so much worst.

Today i did my personal record of 70km by bike but yep no record of it as my charge 5 shows 32km only- time and heart zones was going but km not as it lost gps (it was on dynamic and i had my phone with me but it didnt help). I bought fit bit as an upgrade from mibands but im so disappointed using it. No autopause and other options and now even gps not working....

This is crazy... I go for a run without my phone, using GPS on tracker only... halfway around I have to pause (to cross the road sometimes it can take minutes as a dual carriageway) and when I resume it doesn't always pick up the GPS again?  When I had my charge 4 it never did this - pause would leave on the GPS?  How stupid honestly completely useless bit of kit.

I have the same issue and I think it's super annoying.

I need to worry about my performance, not about the reliability of the GPS.

I understand that it might disconnect sometimes, but please make it possible to reconnect without ending the activity.

This is a constant pain, and has gotten worse recently.  Is there no response from Fitbit on this at all?
