What is the best way to track bicycling? I get totally different results using track live vs letting the device auto sense biking. What is the most accurate choice?

Generally I would say the most accurate is to use the Exercise App on your wrist to be sure you get the start and end times right, and to be sure it doesn't sense it as some other type of activity.  Is that what you mean by "track live"?
Were they measured for the same time length, and could that explain the difference if auto-sensing did not recognize it from the start?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Best way to track cycling? Just about any device OTHER than a Charge 5. The most irritating "unfeature" is that Charge 5 does not have autopause (stop recording when you're standing still, start again when you resume moving). In my experience, the tracking also quits recording randomly even while you're moving. For instance, I rode 30-plus miles earlier this week, but my Charge 5 says I managed a whoppin' 6.56 miles.

I don't generally ask my fitbit for any data about cycling except... well, nothing. I use a cyclocomputer for time/distance/speed and -- believe it or not -- a digitization app to record my route. Both are more reliable than my Charge 5 by orders of magnitude. The only thing I wish I could independently track with some reliability is heart rate. With that in mind, I intend to spring for a GPS-enabled ANT+ cyclocomputer that will also track heart rate. You don't have to spend megabucks to get a g@rm1n, either, if you don't intend to go anywhere in the wilderness (or can still read a paper map, which probably also means you can write cursive).
