Blank screen solution
Using the phone App
Press upper left icon for C5 battery %
Takes you to C5 icon which should say synced even though you have a blank screen
Plug in your C5 and be sure it is over 50%
Should also see red banner for update available and press that option
You should see the app searching for your C5
At that point press the circle on the flat end of the charging cable three times with a second between each press
Your C5 should vibrate slightly after a few seconds. The vibration is important to signal a reboot of the C5
The app will recognize the reboot and connect to the C5 and start the update
The Fitbit emblem will appear when starting the update with several updates and reboots to follow
It will end on it’s own and begin to work
GOOD LUCK

my firmware says its 57.20001.188.58 . it doesnt say an update is available.
I can produce the black screen consistently by asking it to do an ECG. when i get to the stage where it used to ask me to put my fingers on the side now the screen goes black.

Didn't work for me either. The good news is that my new OnePlus Watch 2 arrives tomorrow! So long Fitbit!

I have done all suggestions from Fitbit/Google none will restore my Charge 5. Looks like a big OOPs on the Fitbit/Google support / update group. How are you righting the issue.
---
These steps will only work if the charge 5 recognizes that it is plugged into power. My charge 5 is a brick.

Thank you so much for your detailed steps to fix the black screen issue! I tried everything the representative suggested and nothing worked.
I've been without mine for a week and was looking to replace it! I hope this fixes it for good! Again, thank you for taking your time to help with this issue.

"Should also see red banner for update available and press that option" - Doesn't.
Running v57.20001.194.91.
Screen went black with no success despite all tricks. Though charging, tracking etc does working but without display.
