Charge 5 exercise did not work while off-grid.

Can anyone offer some best practices for using Charge 5 when off-grid? Earlier this summer, I used outdoor exercise to track my paddling while in a national park, but was unable to end it and it ran non-stop for a couple of days until the battery ran out. During that time I could not use my Fitbit - no access to heart rate or even the time - simply the exercise counter flipping between laps. It even recorded my sleep as exercise. I have since stopped using the exercise mode when I'm off-grid but this is not a solution. Tips and insights appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the information provided about this inconvenience with your Charge 5, @LindaMtl.

Could you please provide a few more details about this issue? Let me know what you saw on the screen or what happened when you tried to stop the exercise.

In the meantime, please try these general troubleshooting steps that are usually helpful with display issues:

Hello. Thanks for reaching out. The only thing appearing on the screen were lap times and each time I tapped or swiped the screen the data would change to another lap number. The lap numbers shown were erratic, example Lap 80, lap 24 and changed too quickly to read. Tried swiping up, down and sideways.  Took my charge 5 off for a time. Nothing worked. Once the battery died down and I recharged it when back in town, all returned to normal. Except on my latest off grid trip, not wanting to take a chance, I did not use the exercise function. Re the troubleshooting. Are some clock faces better for off-grid? As for chargers, they don’t get packed for such trips, so cable/pulse would not help if the problem were to reoccur. FYI, these are canoe-camping trips, usually 3 to 5 days long.
