my Fitbit is over tracking my steps without any rhyme or reason. It usually occurs all at once near the end of the day when I sync my device. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Hi, @Ivegottheruns2 , welcome to the community, your first step should be to restart your Charge 5 -

How do I restart my Fitbit device? - Fitbit Help Center provides advice & guidance. This video demonstrates the process.

Check you have not set your Fitbit app to track activity from your cell phone, How do I track my steps with Fitbit with my phone? - Fitbit Help Center explains how Mobile Track works. If both are feeding data to the app your issue is sometimes a symptom.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi there, @Ivegottheruns2. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your step count on your Charge 5. I appreciate you took the time to attach the image. I will do my best to help you with this.

As @Gr4ndp4 has mentioned, MobileTrack would affect the accuracy of your steps. Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

to verify whether you have MobileTrack linked to your account, please in the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab > then tap Devices. In this section you'll see your Charge 5 and below your phone (in case MobileTrack is indeed connected).

If the above describes your situation, you can remove MobileTrack by tapping on the phone's icon and then select "Remove From Account".

Nevertheless, to make sure that your Charge 5 is accurately tracking your steps, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?
