Charge 5 is showing wrong time and it won't sync

My time jumped 4 hours and 6 minutes ahead and I can't fix it.
My Charge 5 died at work yesterday morning. I plugged it in and charged it when I got home. When I took it off the charger, it was 4 hours and 6 minutes ahead. The time zone is still the same. I tried resetting it. When I sync it, it says it's synced, but there's a red exclamation mark next to it. The data is updating, but it isn't fixing the time.

Also, I am still on 188.58. I haven't got the update yet. I can't find anywhere to go to get the update.

Hi there, @BikerDLP. Thanks for stopping by in the Fitbit Community Forums and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Charge 5 before reaching out.

Please keep in mind that your Fitbit device may show an incorrect time if it hasn't synced or has been unpaired from your Fitbit account. Your Fitbit device uses the time of the device you're syncing with. As per the description of your post, you're indeed having syncing issues. With that being said, please see Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

If the steps above don't work, please follow the steps below:

  • Unpair your Charge 5 from your phone's Bluetooth and Fitbit app.
  • Unpair other Bluetooth devices that you may also have paired to your phone's Bluetooth settings.
  • Force quit the Fitbit app.
  • Turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use. This can help to prevent connectivity issues or Bluetooth interference.
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes.
  • Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone.
  • Plug it into the charging cable and open the Fitbit app.
  • Set up your Charge 5.
  • If there is no connection, restart your Charge 5.
  • Once your Charge 5 is paired and syncing, please proceed to set up your other Bluetooth devices to your phone again.

With the steps above, what I want you to do is to pair your Charge 5 first to your phone's Bluetooth settings before any other Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.

I tried resetting the phone, unpairing/re-pairing, with/without the fitbit on the charger.Ultimately, I uninstalled the app, reset the phone, reinstalled the app, set it all up, played with the settings, then did something that let it fully sync (it synced the steps, etc, info, but always left an exclamation point), and the time came back. It was a pain, but it works now. Never had that happen before. Normally, if it doesn't sync, I just don't get all the info. But it doesn't make up a random time.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. 🙂

PS.  I'm still on version 188.58. Is there some way I can install the update? Or are you still rolling it out and I'll just be patient?

Hello @BikerDLP

Although the firmware update was announced a couple of months ago, I think it might have been pulled for now. There seemed to be a lot of users experiencing issues after installing the last firmware update.

For what it's worth, I'm also on version 188.58.

Hi @BikerDLP

You're very welcome. Hopefully, when the next firmware update is released, it will not cause issues.
