I've followed the reset steps, and my Charge 5 is pretty much dead in the water. I've been a loyal Fitbit owner for years but this is literally the second time in 6 months that a software update has rendered my device useless. The red light won't go off on the back, battery draining, hard to get the clock to come on, not counting steps. I've restarted over and over, changed clock apps, unpaired my device and set it up again. I tried turning off heartrate monitoring as well. The firmware update is buggy.

If you look at all the threads about the battery draining rapidly and dying, it becomes obvious that there is a defect in the Charge 5. Contact customer service for a replacement ASAP. If you are past the 1 year warranty though, you will receive no help.
