Recently my Fitbit Charge 5 device screen went blank.
I've tried to restart the device by using the charging cable method but the display is still blank.
My. See hi

Hi there, @Chrisng. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. I'm sorry to hear that the screen of your Charge 5 is still blank despite the restart you performed. I'll do my best to help you with this.
While reading your post I was wondering if the Charge 5 vibrated when you attempted the restart? If it didn't, it looks to me that your Charge 5 ran out of battery and that's why it's not responding to anything.
Sometimes a Fitbit doesn’t seem to be charging when actually the issue is that it has become unresponsive (this can happen if the battery has been allowed to discharge completely). I'd recommend putting it on to charge on a charging wire and outlet known to be working. Leave it on the charger for a good two hours, even if it doesn’t seem to be charging.
When it has had two hours, try restarting your Charge 5. I would recommend trying this maybe twice in a row if a first try doesn’t work.
Let me know how it goes.
Was my post helpful? Give it a thumbs up to show your appreciation! Of course, if this was the answer you were looking for, don't forget to make it the Best Answer! Als...

Hi Chrisng,
My device screen went blank as well after the latest update, the 29th of nov.
I did restart the device the way you did with the charging cable and it still was blank. Tried it a few more times and suddenly it turned on again. My watch is still having a lot of troubles: if I tap the screen it lights up, but I it stays on that screen, I can not switch anymore with tapping one time on the screen. Also it did not register my sleep for 3 nights. Last night I got 3 hours of sleep on the fitbit app, although I slept for about 7 hours :). Lots of troubles with the new update

Lots of trouble with the new update is a huge understatement. My Charge 5 is among the thousands bricked by the update. And Fitbit/Google doesn't care. I moved on to an Amazfit Band 7 because I won't spend money with a company that doesn't support their products that their firmware update screwed up.

The same thing happened to me this morning that happened to Chrisng. My device was working at the gym this morning, then suddenly went blank. It was at 72% charge when it died. I have been charging it for over two hours and have tried to re-set using the button on the charging cable numerous times. Nothing!
This is the second device I have had that went bad.
Any other suggestions?

No sorry, no more suggestions. My screen is lighting up again upon double tapping, but it stays on that screen. Not moving to another screen when I tap again

Hi mine did exactly the same last night. One minute it was working, got home after my run and the screen went completely blank. I know it is not out of charge as it vibrates when I connect it to the charger.

I think we just have to wait till Fitbit is doing something. Hopely like deleting the last update. So many complaints and so many people running away

Hi @MarreFitbit, since the blank screen issue seems to be related to the latest software update. Is there a hotfix in the works?

This what I found here in the Netherlands about the answer from Fitbit to all the problems:
As a solution for affected consumers, Fitbit customer service is reportedly offering a 35% discount code towards the purchase of a new Fitbit device, provided your Charge 5 is still under warranty. If not, there is no solution. Unfortunately, there also doesn't seem to be a way to prevent the Charge 5 from updating automatically. We don't know if the update has been discontinued as reports of issues are still coming in.
Thanks Fitbit!

Same problem (I think, though I wasn’t aware of an update to the device).
Tapping on the screen does nothing, it stays black. I did the 3bbutton presses reset got a flash of FitBit logo, then nothing.
Device is showing in app (it’s fully charged). I was able to change to a different screen from the gallery, app showed success but nothing on Charge 5, still black. Help!

They say here in the Netherlands that a lot of the devices are just ruined and won't work anymore. If your fitbit is still under waranty you will get a discount on a new one. Ridiculous!

I have made a mistake. I have a charge 4 not 5 but still had the same problem. I uninstalled the app then re installed it and it did a big update. It's now working again for the moment 😊

I have been in touch with FitBit support and walked through lots of corrective options, all failed. So they have offered a replacement like for like or an discount on a different model. Cannot fault their efforts or the outcome.

That means you can get a new charge 5 as a replacement if I understand "like fo like"?
That would be a correct offer from Fitbit! (Since all the problems started after the update)

My Fitbit charge five also went black last night. I have tried everything restarting and all no vibration no nothing.

My charge 5 has also stopped working at the end of June because of the firmware upgrade. The screen went black and I can’t fix it. It won’t restart. Now, I can’t reset the Fitbit. It shows a red X!
