Charge 5 shuts off when using the timer

For about 2 years my Charge 5 has worked fine. And for the past 3 months I set the timer for 29 minutes so I know when my lunch break is over. But for some reason I found that when the timer goes off at 29 minutes, the tracker will shut off completely by itself! I have found that the only way to turn it back on is to connect it to the plugged-in charger cable. I don't bring the charger cable with me to work; I don't expect to charge the thing whenever it malfunctions. Is there a fix for this? I haven't found any similar issues with the timer on these forums.

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @SlackingOff!

Sad to hear you're having issues with your Charge 5.
As a first approach to hopefully get things fixed, I'd suggest restarting it. Before doing so you should make sure you've synced your device to not lose any data tracked so far. Also you should verify that the charging contacts on your device are clean and the charging pins on it's charging adapter are clean as well and can move flawlessly. In doubt please have a look here:

How do I clean my Fitbit device?

Next please closely follow these instructions as timing is crucial for this procedure:

1.) Connect your Charge 5 to the charging cable which has to be connected to a reliable power source.
2.) Press the button located on the flat end of the charging cable 3 times within 8 seconds(!), holding each press for about 1 second(!).
3.) Wait around 10 seconds until the Fitbit logo appears on your device's display.

I'd like to point out that it sometimes requires more than one attempt to restart Charge 5. So, before throwing the towel, please give it another try.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Talahthas I did everything you suggested- cleaning the contacts on the device and the charger, reset the device from the screen and the charger cable.

I tried to set my timer for different duration, 28 or 27 minutes, and that worked for a couple days. Then the problem got worse. Now the device shuts off at random times during my workday for no reason (I don't use the timer anymore) and it stays off.

I found a recent thread where someone suggesting changing the watch face so I can try that.
