Charge 5 stuck on a red X

My Fitbit Charge 5 has a black screen since earlier this afternoon.  I tried many ways of starting and now it has a black screen with red circle and white x....

  • Please try to sync in the Fitbit app. From the Today tab, tap the devices icon > Charge 5 > Sync Now.
  • It should show you an update banner.
  • If the banner doesn't show up tap the devices icon > Charge 5 > 
     
     Gallery. The app should show a pop up to install the missing apps and recover the device.
