I've been having a problem with my Charge 5. The battery life was shrinking over the last few months. Now, it shows 1%. It will charge to 99% but as soon as I take it off the charger, it goes back to 1%.
I've tried resetting the device, both on the device and charger button. It goes back to 1%. I tried cleaning the contacts.

As the old song says, "Another one bites the dust".
This is an endemic problem with the Charge 5. If you are still on warranty, contact customer service and ask for a replacement.
If not, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do other than find another fitness tracker.
They may offer you a discount coupon, but it cannot be used in conjunction with any type of sale or reduced price offer, so it is really no bargain.
