I got the charge 5 in January for my birthday. It's been a problem from day 1 getting it to attach to charge. It attaches strongly enough with the magnet it just doesn't start charging! I've just spent ten minutes before it finally started to work. Is it a common issue? I can't see me using this much longer if it's normal.

Hi, @Cosworthlady, welcome to the community, I do not think this is a common issue, unlike with the "Sense". May I suggest you check a couple of things? First, ensure the back of your "Charge 5" is free of any debris or skin product you may use. I use rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl 70%) with a cotton wool swab - while in hand I usually also clean my mouse & keyboard. Secondly, clean the charge cable puck pins with the swab, they are spring-loaded & should be equally proud of the puck surface. When your "Charge 5" starts to charge the display will tell you it's taking juice. You may find this article of interest Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging? .
I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
Cheers

Much like you, my Charge 5 is a bit finicky when I put it on the charger. It has to sit just right to start charging. Even on my 3rd party stand charger, I have to fiddle with my device and keep checking to make sure it is charging.
In addition to @Gr4ndp4 excellent suggestions, I've used a soft dry brush (old toothbrush) to gently clean the contact spots on my Charge 5. Keeping the contacts clean does seem to help.
Let us know if these suggestions work for you.
