Charge 5 won't track my data accurately

Just after I woke up Charge 5 already says I've walked 1300 steps and wasted more than 600 calories. I noticed that the calories are always very exagerated, an amount that doesn't make sense for a person who weighs 58Kgs. The charger doesn't seem to work well either, sometimes it makes connection and other times not. It was a Christmas present and hasn't worked well from the start - so it is still under Warranty. How can I return it, please?

Hi there, @NatAg82. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5.

Before considering other options, I'm wondering if you're using another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

If you want to negate the steps tracked while you were sleeping, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

As a friendly reminder, please note that Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

As for the calories burned, have you recently updated your profile settings such as height, age etc.)? I'd double check your personal information to see if your weight and height were properly set, it may worth the try. To update your profile, see How do I change the units of measurement in my Fitbit account?

Fitbit devices combine your basal metabolic rate (BMR)—the rate at which you burn calories at rest to maintain vital body functions (including breathing, blood circulation, and heartbeat)—and your activity data to estimate your calories burned.

Your BMR is based on the physical data you entered in to your Fitbit account (height, weight, sex, and age) and accounts for at least half the calories you burn in a day.

Hope this helps.
