Did you mean:

Charge 5 won’t track my exercises

Yesterday I noticed when I tried to track my walk that my Fitbit would not start recording. Today it did the same with a workout.

Hi there, @Angwei. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the issue with your Charge 5.

Could you please provide a few more details about the way you're tracking your activity? Let me know if you mean that you're starting the activity from the device using the exercise shortcuts or if the device is not tracking your exercise automatically.

Keep in mind that most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities that are at least 15 minutes long. If the activity is long enough and issue persists after the three pulse restart you mentioned, please try setting up your Charge 5 as a new device in your account.

In addition, keep in mind that not all the activities are tracked automatically. The ones that are recognized are: walk, run, outdoor bike, elliptical, sports, aerobic workout, swimming.

Hello @Angwei

You might want to consider customizing your workouts, such as changing the length of time so your device auto recognizes the activity after 10 minutes. To do this:

  • From the Today page in the Fitbit app, tap on your picture/icon in the upper left to open the Account page
  • Swipe up and tap on Activity & Wellness under Settings
  • Tap on Exercise
  • Tap on the type of exercise that you want to modify, for example Walk.
Confirm Auto-recognize is selected. Alternatively, you can de-select Auto-recognize if the exercise is one that you don't do
From this page, you can also change the length of time of the activity from 15 minutes to 10 minutes (the minimum) so that your device starts tracking sooner.
You can do this for the remaining exercises on the list.
  • Tap on the arrows in the upper left to return to the Today page and pull down to perform a sync

Personally, I prefer to manually start & stop my workouts to ensure they get tracked & recorded. To do this:

  • From the clock face, swipe left twice to access the Exercise tile
  • Swipe up, if needed, and tap on the type of Exercise you'll be doing
  • Tap on the Start icon. Your Charge 5 will start tracking your workout. You can tap on the screen to scroll through the various metrics that your device will track.
  • When you're done, swipe up and tap on Pause.
  • Swipe up and tap on Finish
  • Swipe right or left to get back to the Exercise tile
  • Swipe right to return to the clock face

You might also want to customize the exercise shortcuts that are displayed in the Charge 5 Exercise tile. You can have up to 6 and you can rearrange the order so that your most frequently used exercises are at the top. This video will show you: How to customize your exercise shortcuts
Note: Although the person is using a Charge 4 in the video, the steps are the same for the Charge 5.

Hopefully, you find these tips helpful.
