Charge 5 won't work after getting wet

I went swimming and it got some water in it so I put it in rice for 12 hours. It worked for a while but stopped again and I noticed that there was still some condensation in the sensor so I left it in for almost another 24 hours but now when I try changing it nothing shows up on the screen. I've tried restarting it but it still won't show anything. What should I do?

Hi there, @JessWhite. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Charge 5 is still unresponsive. I understand your concern, I will do my best to help you with this!

If your device got wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. On the other hand, if your device has come into contact with any liquid other than fresh water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

If you've done the above but to no avail, may I know if your Charge 5 vibrated during the restart process? If it didn't, I'd recommend trying the steps below:

  • Clean the charging contacts on the back of your device and the pins on your charging cable using the instructions in How do I clean my Fitbit device?
  • If the error "insufficient power source" appears on your device's screen, remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
  • Try a different USB port or a UL-certified wall charger.
  • Check the alignment and try reconnecting your device to the charging cable. For more information, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  • Restart your Fitbit once again.

Hi, @JessWhite, welcome to the community. Your Charge 5 should be good for swimming unless it's been damaged, you do not mention why you think it's got water in it, you mention condensation in the sensor but I think it must be very difficult to see without a magnifying glass due to the structure & shape. Have you checked that the battery has some reserve? Why isn't my Fitbit device's battery charging? - Fitbit Help Center provides advice & guidance. You do not mention how long you've had your Charge 5, small wearable devices do have a finite life limited by the number of charge/discharge cycles. If your device is not suffering from accidental damage you may have the benefit of Fitbit's return and warranty policy  . Your next step should be to contact "Customer Support".

I hope this helps.

Cheers

I made sure to clean it and dry it and it worked for a while but stopped all of a sudden which is when I put it in the rice. When I put it on the charger after it was in the rice it does vibrate but doesn't display anything on the screen. It also vibrants during the reset but still doesn't display anything.

It's never been damaged and I've taken it swimming before with no issues. The attached photo can show the condensation in the sensor. The battery life was in the 75 to 85 range when I was swimming and I changed it after the first time it was in the rice and it went to 95 percent without any issues so I know it's not the battery. I've had it since December of 2022.
