DND, Android, contact exceptions not pushing notifications to Fitbit

Hey everyone!  I've recently rediscovered Fitbit.  Was a user quite a while ago, got out of the tracker/smartwatch world for a while, then came back to the fold.  Wow, I forgot how good the Fitbit line is.  (for me) I love the simplicity of the ergonomics in the Charge line, yet data rich.  The app is very streamlined and easy to navigate (and I have both Polar and Garmin experience to compare).

Anyway, there's one thing that's not working as expected for me.  I have a scheduled Do Not Disturb on my Android Pixel phone.  It's set to silent mode except for message/calls from anyone in my contacts. As expected, the phone will pass through those notifications.

Yet on the Fitbit, it apparently disregards the exceptions and remains silent.  However, if I manually navigate over to the notifications page, they will be there.  It's just not vibrating the notification for either messaging app or phone calls.

I've seen in the phone app the setting to force notifications through regardless of DND settings.  This has other unintended consequences though, such as then getting notifications from everyone.

I'd really rather my workday be very focused but get notifications from family or emergencies by exception.

A little update.  Despite the above DND settings, I'm finding that calendar notifications come through.  So that's interesting.
