Failed while swimming?

My Charge 5 died today while swimming laps. I thought it was safe to do that. Swimming is one of the exercises listed. Am I wrong? Should I not have selected “swimming” as my exercise and then went swimming?

Welcome back to the Fitbit community, @SunsetRunner!

Sad to hear that you're having an issue with your Charge 5.
Though your device is meant for swimming an tracking your swim exercises, there are some things to consider when using it for that purpose, as mentioned here:

Can I swim or shower with my Fitbit device?

As there's always the possibility of a manufacturing issue I'd suggest contacting Fitbit support to see what they can do for you:

It is supposed to be waterproof.  I wear mine pretty regularly for surfing and for windsurfing and also when taking a shower.  However, I've learned that you don't want to hold it deep underwater for any significant length of time.  I ruined one once by holding it about a meter down for maybe 30 seconds.
