Fitbit Charge 5 battery problems since update

How many of you are experiencing battery problems since the update?

Could anyone who's experienced problems with the charge 5 battery please post once on this thread so it's easy to count and present to show it's not a warranty problem and is a result if the update.

I obviously have battery problems. Had to charge it twice yesterday and uninstalled the SpO2 app to try to make the battery last through the night. Managed to wake up to 50% battery instead of it being dead by morning, even though fully charged before bed.

I spent an hour online with support and as with all call centres, they follow a call sheet. I got an absolutely flat denial of a faulty update or any other software error, the same denial a number of times.

The new battery made no difference at all, it still drained the battery very quickly (less than an hour)

Support would not be drawn on how so many otherwise good reliable devices suddenly develop the same fault.

Interestingly, not long after contacting Fitbit, my device seemed to connect to my app and become unresponsive for a while. Then after charging it twice more it has stopped altogether. Blank screen.😖

Kind regards
Chris

My battery stopped working after the update as well. I reached out to customer service and they requested that put it back on the charger when it was low so the information can be transmitted to them. Did that for three days and reached out to them again. THEY CLOSED MY CASE AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING SINCE. Good luck!

I charged mine last night and despite being 100%, it was at 81% this
morning! And it wasn't even working!! I guess we're all having a mass
hallucination.

So, a brief update about our situation: after trying and retrying all Fitbit support suggestions (none worked) they finally arrived to the pretty obvious conclusion that something was wrong with the hardware. Since we were covered by the warranty they offered a replacement of the Charge 5 for a other Charge 5 and no other option. We accepted the replacement of course hoping that in the new unit this won't happen again. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for sharing your experience. This response from Google support
is different than what was done in the early days of this meltdown of
Fitbit devices. It suggests that the numbers of malfunctions is probably
much higher than what has been seen on this forum. It also makes clear
there is no Google interest in maintaining Fitbit. Do they think this
inspires confidence in another Google device?

My Charge 5 has been sketchy for the past few days. I was initially successful at resetting and logging some steps though they didn't register on the bracelet screen. Now only the Logo flashes. Bought the bracelet in January 2022.

Mine started last night, was charged to 100% then woke up dead. Did a full charge to 100% this morning and in 20 minutes it dropped to 77%, in 50 minutes it dropped to 11%, in 60 minutes it was at 4% and shortly after that it was dead. Purchased it in December of 2022. My wife's Versa 4 just went crazy a couple weeks ago and would not respond or turn on.  They ended up giving us a rebate on a new one.  I think its a way for them to get you to buy a new one even at 50% off they are still making a ton of money.

Edit:

I chatted with the help desk and they said I had to turn off the Sp02. So I did and the batter died almost a quick as before.  100% @ 5:45, 66% @ 5:54, 10% @ 6:18 and 4% @ 6:27.  Guess I will have to spend another hour on the chat with them again tomorrow.  It really makes no sense that it worked fine up to last night and all of a sudden the battery drains in an hour?

Edit Update:

They said since I'm out of the warranty date they can't do anything.  It is only a year and a half old. Extremely disappointed with Fitbit, I previously had a charge 4 and it failed after a couple years. They did come back and offer 35% off a new fitbit.  I will be switching to another brand as I don't want to have to buy a new device every other year.

That is what they did for me.....and it is still working. No

My Charge 5 is not keeping its charge and suddenly goes dead.  Currently having to charge every day with no guarantee that it will last the day.

I received my new fitbit charge 5 today. during setup it told me there was
an update available. I declined it. Time wil tell.

They have a lot of freakin nerve, when they haven't solved the hundreds of problems with the last update.

My Fitbit will not stay charged if disconnected from the charger.

what do I do?

Best Answer
You will have to contact the help through the chat. Hopefully you are under
warranty otherwise you may as well throw it away. I won't be buying
another fitbit product. I don't want to have to buy a new one every couple
years.

Seriously, we all need to abandon Fitbit and Google at this point. This whole tread is sounding like insanity. Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. We all know the update killed the C5. We all know Fitbit/Google could give a rats **ahem** about their users. We all need to take our money elsewhere.

Same.

So happy to see this is not just me. My battery started draining very quickly a week ago - it charges to 100%, I put it on and within half an hour it's drained to 60% and is dead less than two hours later.

I've tried all the usuals, the 3-button push reset, checking settings etc but nothing is working.  This thread is insane - I'm happy it's not just me but not happy to lose the Fitbit and cannot afford to replace it. So disappointed.

You do what the rest of us have done - switch to a different company for your fitness tracker.

I'm done with Google.  I never jumped on the Gmail bandwagon because I love my email client and never felt the need to change.  But as a result of the way Google has handled this issue, I gave DuckDuckGo a try as my search engine.  It is EXCELLENT, and returns results every bit a good as Google.  So I have now made it my designated search engine.

I think we have to speak with our pocketbooks and abandon their products all together.  Change your email if you currently use Gmail, and definitely take a look at DuckDuck the next time you do a search, and switch to them.  And let the word get out.

Best Answer

Agreed.  And have spoken with others who feel exactly the same.

FITBIT's Charge 3 was great, then they started messing around with it... then sold out thr company..  Google doesn't really care about this wee aspect I'd their bigger arsenal now - gave them a bigger audience perhaps.    Great while the ride lasted.  Sad it's likely over

The issues began the month after the warranty expired. Of course. Planned
obsolescence. The level of greed in this country is off the charts. I won't
be giving Fitbit any more of my money. They can see these comments, etc.
the same as we can. BUT, they have chosen to ignore the issues & thumb
their noses at us. With that level of loyalty to customers, they don't
deserve any from us.
