Fitbit Charge 5 mapping activities with location turned off

Since 1/20, my Fitbit Charge 5 is showing a map on my morning walks.   This is in the app on an iPhone 13.  It never showed the map before.  My Location tracking is completely off...not just the "Never" for Fitbit, it's completely off.   GPS is turned off under walks in the Exercise setting.   What else can I do?

It's bad enough that I can't turn off the stupid notification that asks me if I want to turn location on every time I enter the app....

Fitbit needs to fix this problem or I'm out.  I don't want data out there showing my home location every time I walk and at what time in the morning.  If it doesn't stop, they lose a long time customer.

Hello @roushjk

Oh dear, that sound worrying!

It might be worth checking GPS is completely switched off everywhere.  For all of your Exercise Shortcuts on your Charge 5, press Start, then scroll up until you get to GPS and make sure it's Off and greyed out, if it's Orange, it's on.  There are a maximum of 6 shortcuts on your tracker, so it wouldn't take long to go through all of them and make sure they're off. This is just in case a different exercise is coming on when you're starting it.

GPS shouldn't start by itself, so it's definitely worth double-checking every shortcut on the tracker itself has GPS switched off.  When you're exercising, if GPS is on, you should see an icon for it at the top of your screen.

If everything is 100% switched off and it's still switching on by itself, then your tracker is probably defective.

One other thing you should try is restarting your Charge 5 too.  From the Clock Face, scroll down to Settings, tap, then scroll up to Restart Device.  It's very quick and painless.

I hope that helps a bit.

Nope, none of those helped.   Nor did a call to customer service.  It only started last week and the Tracker wasn't knew last week so I would expect it isn't a defective tracker.   I'm thinking there was a software change that FitBit app isn't owning up to.

Still doing it;  2nd chat with customer service.  BTW, that irritating "turn location services on" notification every time you start the Fitbit app?   Actually had the customer service rep tell me a) I should grant permission, and b) that they couldn't turn it off, it was needed for the app to function.   What a bunch of crap!

2nd call to Chat was worthless;  still tracking my movement despite turning off everything I can find!
