I have had this issue for over 3 weeks. Fitbit support say that they will be releasing an update to fix the problem
I got it updated for the same issue , did NOT help resolving the black screen! I even tried shacking the hack of it!! hoping there is some problem with arm band motion sensor detection system also nothing apparently happened!
I contacted support on this issue. I put the Charge 5 on the charger anticipating questions and opened a chat with support. I moved the fitbit and the screen came back on just like normal, go figure. I asked the tech twice if he could tell when the device had last been updated but he ignored that part of both questions. I have no idea why it suddenly works.
Best AnswerThis happened to me today, I thought because its was running low on battery - had 10% yesterday. I could not turn on the screen or do anything with it, then I launched the app and noticed that it synced with 98% of battery and that fw update is available. I had to restart my fitbit and app - still black screen, but i was then able to update the firmware.
Once the fw update was done, it came back to life but with no HR and autowake was not functioning. I went to check gps menu, it restarted automatically and since that everything is working.
Try to update it.
