“General Workouts”

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I take a general fitness class a couple of times a week and I can’t figure out how to log it on my Charge 5. I don’t know that I can adequately describe the Active Adult class. Sometimes we use the stretchy cords, sometimes weights and always calisthenics type exercises. What is the best shortcut to use to track my activity?

Thanks for the assistance.

From How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

If that option doesn't show on your tracker, the above link describes how to change your options.

Definitely makes sense.  I was going to suggest that too.

I'm trying to figure out how I got "swimming" stats when swimming isn't a listed option on my tracker for tracking.  I'm still trying to figure all of this out!

@BarbaraSD  Probably got that auto-detected, Fitbit guessing from your wrist movement pattern, which it often gets wrong, except for "walk".

On phone app, tap days of exercise tile, then gear icon near top right, to see list of "auto-recognized exercises". For any you never do, tap and turn "auto-recognize" slider off.

Also I generally recommend using Exercise App on tracker to start and end workout rather than relying on auto-recognition as more reliable.

@BarbaraSD   If this swimming showed up as an auto recognized activity, I can give you some insight.  The auto recognition feature (SmartTrack) uses the accelerometer data to look for patterns that fit certain activities.  Not too long ago, a user said she got a swimming exercise recorded while she was folding laundry.  SmartTrack does get activities wrong from time to time.  I once got a bike ride driving over a very long bridge.

You can alway set your app to ignore swimming as an auto recognized activity.  Tap on Exercise tile > the Gear icon in the upper right > Swimming > turn the toggle off.

Thank you! I found that I have “auto-recognize” for two exercises. I bet with lifting and packing groceries-I work at WF’s-mimicked swimming! My on-line chat didn’t even bring this up.
Thanx!

The Charge 5 doesn’t have the “Workout” option.

Every Fitbit device has the same options for the Exercise App.  The defaults on various devices might be different, but the link in my first post above tells how to change the options shown on your device to any of the 21 in the screen cap posted above.

You're wrong. If I type "Workout" the only thing that comes up in terms of an option is "Tabata Workout". There is no other "Workout" option.

You "typed" Workout?  Are trying to log the workout after it is done?  The link I gave I thought clearly is referring to the Exercise App.  That is the app on the Fitbit whereby before you start the workout you tell it what you are going to do and tell it when you start; then at the end, you tell it you are done.  This is much better than logging a workout after you are done.  When you log the workout after you are done, it ignores all the data that fitbit actually recorded, including heart rate data, and bases everything just on the parameters you input.  It is as if Fitbit Fitbit is assuming the reason you are manually logging the workout is because you were not even wearing the tracker at the time.

Scroll through the apps on the Fitbit until you come to Exercise, and tap that.

I went to the exercise option. It was before the workout. Thanks for your efforts but please don't waste your time, or mine, with further attempts.

Yea, it does. It also has an “interval workout.”

Hello

I am new to this Charge5 business. I don't want to dispute you, however, I
have used the "workout" mode for strength training at my gym, as it is one
of my 5 options. Here is the link to the 20 options that we have 5 to
choose from. I have lost no information on my device for using it. It
reflects my time, BPM,
calories( I don't care about that) and Zone minutes.

How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?

I have also chatted with them about options, as I was having a problem with
something else. Workout options were part of that communication.

No link available. I would gladly do a screen capture from my phone (if possible) to show you and JohnnyRow that I do not mave a "Workout" option.

II no longer care about this topic. Everyone is wasting their time trying to convince me I'm not doing something right or that I'm nuts. If people continue to respond after this I'll designate anything coming from FitBit as junk and I don't want to do that.

Welcome to the Community forums, @DanLL

Thanks for sharing your inquiry and experience with the Charge 5.

The "Workout" option should appear as one of the shortcuts available, since they should be the same for all Charge 5 users. Before considering other options, keep in mind that you can have up to 6 activity shortcuts at the same time on the Charge 5 and you would need to remove one of them to be able to see the other shortcut options that you can choose from. Here are the complete instructions to add, remove or reorder the exercises on your device using the Fitbit app:

  1. Tap the Today tab

    > Tap your profile picture

    > Tap your device image.
  2. Scroll all the way down and Tap Exercise Shortcuts and make your changes:
    • Tap + Exercise Shortcut to add an exercise.
    • To remove an exercise, swipe left on a shortcut and tap Delete (on Windows 10, tap the trash can icon).
    • To reorder the exercises, Press and hold a shortcut (on the 4 lines icon to the left), and drag it up or down to change its position.
  3. Sync your device.

Wrong again! There’s interval workout which requires entries for duration, intensity, etc. There is no option simply for workout to track heart rate, calories burned etc.
