Hi there, @JudyJones. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post.

From my personal experience, I do use weights when doing squats or lunges as I always do them with weights. Nevertheless, please note all the exercise shortcuts that you will find in the Exercise section are specifically designed to track the most out of each type of activity. The algorithms have been fine tuned to get more accurate data for each different exercise so that's the reason why there is a category for each.

When a specific exercise is not available within the exercises we offer, we suggest to use "Workout" (which is a generic catch-all for other types of exercise). Once you finish the activity, you can rename the activity to desired exercise/activity. Please note that the amount of calories burned vary from the exercise you're performing and due to the heart rate tracked by your Charge 5.

Note that the information to enter will change depending on the nature of the exercise. To give you an example, if you change from "Workout" to "Run", it won't remove the calories but will add distance as the main stat to be displayed, this happen depending of the activity you are categorizing. However, your the data already tracked will be still counted for your daily totals.

For more information about how to do so, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

As MarreFitbit notes, 'Workout' is a good general catchall.

That said, I use 'Weights' when I'm doing ANY kind of resistance training, which - for me - includes squats and lunges, as well as pushups, pullups, anything using resistance bands, etc. If you're concerned about calorie burn, then look into how the tracker measures calories (there apparently is a difference whether you use SmartTrack or manually enter the exercize, so if you're interested, do some research on that...) But, you should also recognize that ALL calorie counters are inaccurate (and you'd need to spend a lot more than you did on your Charge 5 to get better, though not 100%, accuracy), but they are generally consistent - i.e., if it says you burned 2000 calories one day, and 2200 calories the next, it is very likely (though not 100%) that you did, in fact, burn more calories on day 2. And then, depending on your fitness goals (lose weight? gain weight/bulk?) you could adjust your exercise and eating routines to achieve your objective.

OTOH, if you just want to distinguish between different types of exercise, Fitbit provides a whole bunch to choose from if you want to edit your exercise type (e.g., inter alia, you can do 'Pistol shooting', 'Swedish gymnastics,' even 'Scooter driving') - in the 'Categorize Exercise' function, just type in letters (a, then b, then c, etc.) to see the range available. If none of the available choices suits you, apparently you can add your own - search on 'create custom activity fitbit'.

Really just depends on what you're trying to achieve
