How can I prevent my Charge 5 from updating?
Software?
Firmware?

Hi, @stanhilliard2 as long as you aren’t setting up a Fitbit as new (i.e. if newly bought or if re-added to your account after removing it) all updates are entirely up to you when and if to install. Updates are released in batches over a number of days or weeks (so that any major issues can be monitored) and when an update is available to you you will see a message on the front page of the app and a pink arrow showing the update can be downloaded. You can always ignore the message and arrow until you are ready to update - or ignore it forever - it’s up to you.
My position is if I happen to be one of the ones to get an update early, I always wait to see if any issues emerge, so I tend to update later when I feel confident.
Fitbit usually publishes (very) broad details of what the update involves - you might want to make sure any one you are passing on does not involve critical security updates. Also, occasionally an update contains a cool new feature that you might enjoy.
For a new Fitbit I have noticed recently that sometimes they also give you the option to postpone an update, but often an update will be required during the set up process if the system detects an update was issued since it was manufactured.
I hope this helps!
