when i go to do CrossFit and set exercise mode to interval workout , it just keeps stopping on its own as i i have stopped exercising , do i need to keep pressing pause on rest periods or what ?

Have you tried using it in any other exercise mode? Mine isn't working in any exercise mode. It will track for maybe a minute or two and then stop. I've been contacting fitbit for 2 months about this now. They asked me for a video recording of what happens, so I changed my fitbit to Always Display while I was in Treadmill mode and video recorded it with my phone. What happened was the screen went black, then it displayed the large fitbit logo, like it does when I reset it. Then a few seconds later it goes back to the home screen as though it wasn't in exercise mode. I am past frustrated. I've been a fitbit user since 2013. It looks like I'm going to have to move on to another tracker if they fix this soon.
