Charge 5 new in January 2022 bought directly from Fitbit- barely holds a charge more than 36 hrs! The software was updated and since that time the battery life is pathetic! Help!

Maybe restarting your Fitbit Tracker can help some. (No promises but certainly doesn’t hurt) You will not lose any data restarting your Fitbit. Go to the screen of your Charge 5 and swipe to the settings (gear wheel) and tap it. Now scroll down and tap Restart Device then tap restart.

Hello @keszml and welcome to the Community. This is a significant, ongoing issue with the Charge 5. A restart is unlikely to help.
