Majority of the time display won’t work, I have to lightly time, tap hard, talk to it nicely, whatever. Will be through with Fitbit watch and app, they should be ashamed!

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @Junkwatch2.
Thank you for the information provided about this inconvenience with your Charge 5.
It seems you are referring to the Smart track feature that allows the device to track and activity automatically. Most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities through the SmartTrack feature. Keep in mind that your device recognizes activities at least 15 minutes long by default, although it's possible to change the amount of time required in the Fitbit app.
In addition, keep in mind the activities that are tracked automatically are: Walk Run, Outdoor Bike, Elliptical, Sports, Aerobic Workout, Swimming. If your device is still not tracking activities, please complete a restart procedure again, but using the charging cable, instead of the restart option available on the device's settings. You can find the instructions here.
Regarding the display not turning on, please make sure to check if the Screen Wake option is turned on, swipe down from the main screen on your Charge 5 and look for the option "Screen Wake". This feature allows your screen to be turned on when you turn your wrist.
