Overestimating resting heart rate.

 Fitbit puts my resting heart rate at 69. Well I'm resting now and my heart rate is 65. So how is my resting heart rate actually determined?

Fitbit does not divulge how it calculates "resting heart rate", but it is not unusual to see your heart rate below that.  Fitbit RHR might not exactly correspond to what others mean by RHR, but as long as consistent, it still serves the same purpose, estimating fitness and watching for trends in history to maybe predict when getting sick.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

My question is what the heck the comparison between your resting heart rate and your sleeping heart rate is supposed to be telling you if, as Fitbit says, your resting heart rate is measured based on your data from both the daytime ("at rest") and nighttime (sleeping). Does a few beats either above or below really mean much?

 

Also is the resting heart rate reported based on a single day, the prior one to a given night, combined with that night's sleeping heart rate?

 

Sleeping HR measurement seems pretty straightforward if it's measured during times FB thinks you are asleep (based) on HRV. But if resting heart rate is measured based on both day and night readings, it would likely be skewed based on how often you are actually at rest during the day.

 

As a result I don't place much meaning on anything except the reported sleeping hear rate. The comparo to resting HR seems nearly meaningless to me.
