Understanding Calorie burnt count!

Hi everyone. New used here! Scrolled down all the topics and thought I would find tons of calorie count topics since it makes no sense to me. I just got out of a major surgery and is bedbound and will be för the next 2 weeks before I can start using this watch properly.

Sooo... why does it start out saying I burn 1400 calories? Why not 0?  The clock is now 1 pm and i have made 100 steps today and it says my calorie count is over 700. What?

How do I make the count accurate to my actual movements?

Am I missing something as a new user? If I don't move at all during a day I want it

It's your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Calories you burn by just living 🙂 Fitbit adds up active calories and BMR and only shows a total of both.

Oh i see. Too bad i didn't realize this before I bought it cause this isn't something i want as a feature. I want to be able to choose. Is there anyway to turn this off or should i simply return my new watch?

You can't turn it off. You'd need a watch that separates BMR from active calories. Fitbit doesn't do it.
