black screen when setting up charge 5

I am trying to set up my mom's new charge 5. It has been plugged in charging for about 3 hours. The screen will not light up when you tap it. The lights on the bottom (red and green) will occasonally flash. I have tried going through the set up process in hers and my fitbit app. In both apps it says it finds the charge 5 and prompts to enter the 4 digit code, but nothing comes up on the fitbit. even after tapping it. I have tried pushing the button three times and the fitbit screen does pop up and then go away but the screen never lights up any other time. I have tried updating and uninstalling/reinstalling the fitbit app and nothing helps. I have tried charging it in the usb port of a computer and 2 different cubes (same cord as it came with it and we have no other). I am at a loss as to what to do next, no one else seems to have this issue in the setup process. Any help would be appericated!
