When I use a stationery bike I put the fitbit in my pocket to record the steps. While the sensors aren't touching anything, some crazy heart rate number gets picked up resulting in erroneous zone minutes.
This is one more reason why I like to see the active minutes rather than the zone minutes. With the charge 3 , I would just shut off the heart rate as it was only recording steps. If I shut off the heart rate now, it will show up as no zone minutes and i will get no "credit" for that exercise.
However, my bigger question is whether this in any way affects the fitbit calculation of my cardio fitness score.
I understand that score is mainly based on my resting heart rate but there is some implication in the learn more articles that exercise may effect it also.

Heart rate sensor and the active zone minutes are terrible for me. even while sitting randomly my HR will show 140 150 and immediately my active zone mins bump up and ruin everything else. I've tried to reset etc as mentioned in the guidance, but to no avail
