Auto detect walking

Hi. I’ve recently moved from an Inspire to the Charge 6 and whilst I love all the new features, I’m not keen on the exercise auto-detect. Don’t get me wrong, I like that it picks up on stuff, but I don’t want the buzz to press play, the pause, the stop and the end, as well as being told my pace etc when I’m just going for a walk with the dog.

I still want it to pickup that I’ve done a walk and to log it as exercise, but I don’t want all the extra user experiences.

ideally I’d like it to treat walks in the same way that the old Inspire used to. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

@sampsonkieran   The Charge 6 has an exercise feature that isn't on the Inspire 3.  This auto detection turns on the Exercise app.  Here are the steps to turn it off:

  • Swipe left/right on your screen to the Exercise app and open it.
  • Choose Walk
  • Swipe up on the tiny "^" on the bottom of the screen
  • Look for Walk Detect and toggle it off

This feature is also in the Run and Bike shortcuts.  You need to toggle them off separately, if you want them off, too.

Cool. Thank you. Does it still “credit” me with going for a walk if the
auto-detect is switched off?

Thanks for the pointers. I’ve disabled auto detection and it worked to a degree, ie my Fitbit didn’t buzz.
However, I was still hoping that I’d be “credited” as an exercise activity on the app, in the same way that the Inspire HR used to. Is that bit still doable?

I'm in the same boat. I want it to credit my walk...just don't want it to vibrate and alert me that I'm walking. I think this was a change with the recent update because it never did this before.

Hi. I’ve managed to disable it on the Fitbit device, so it no longer pops up with notifications and the annoying play/pause/stop.

However, it’s no longer crediting me in the same way that the Inspire HR would. Interestingly I’ve got the iOS Fitbit app, whereas my wife has the Android Fitbit app. She’s able to configure it so she gets credited with a walk but doesn’t get the annoying notifications on the device.

Hi FirBit community

Is anyone else having the same issue? The responses below are useful but they don’t resolve the issue for me, ie I either get lots of buzzes with prompts to start, pause, stop and get credited for the walk or I get no prompts, no buzzing and no credit. What I’m after is the 1/2 way house that we had on the Inspire HR, where it detects you’re walking but doesn’t give you loads of annoying prompts.

My wife also has a FitBit Charge 6 with the Android app and that one seems to work as desired. My Charge 6 with iOS doesn’t, even with the same settings applied.

It’s all very confusing.

You are correct in that there is no way to disable auto-detect of walks. That is also true on Android.

@LZeeW  You keep giving people false information on this subject. There is currently on way to stop auto-detect of walks on Charge 6.

Yes, you can turn the notifications off but they will still continue to occur even with the setting turned off. It's a major problem.

So there's no way to have it detect an exercise and not tell you about it?

I walk everywhere, I know I am walking, I don't need to reminded every second minute.

Unlike previous charges, it doesn't auto detect lots of exercises, like elliptical. But it LOVES to tell me I'm walking.

First step is to turn off all options with in the charge 6 tracker (walk exercise) auto start/stop options OFF. Then go to the Fitbit app and click exercise days, top right click three dots, activity settings, Turn on auto recognized exercise (walk 10 min) this should then add all walk activities within exercise in the app. Also the charge 6 tracker shouldn’t start the walk activity counter/stats info. The reason I wanted that off is to save battery power. This was using android phone.

Thanks. That last post sorted. It’s now a million times better and isn’t buzzing left, right and centre.
