Charge 6 floor count

ANSWERED

I feel cheated as my new Fitbit charge 6 does not read the number of floors climbed whereas my old charge 2 worked perfectly. Why was this facility taken away I am extremely disappointed as this was partly the reason for updating to a newer model.

As others have said, I am terribly dissappointed that my versa 6 does not count floors.  What's doubly maddening is that there is a "floors" space on the app!  HELP with a workaround!

Without an altimeter, the only possible 'workaround' would be a GPS implementation to estimate floors, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

As I understand it, both the Charge 5 and Charge 6 don't have an altimeter, so what functionality did the Charge 5 have that is missing in the Charge 6?

Best Answer

Why did the Fitbit Charge 3 have floors climbed and the Fitbit Charge 6 doesn't have floors climbed? That's a terrible response by you and a sham by the company to remove the feature.

I notice the stairs feature is in the code on my Charge 6, but it does not log any stair climbing.

Is that a hardware limitation or software ?

Hello @GaryG.

It's a hardware limitation. The Charge 6 (and Charge 5) doesn't have an altimeter, which is needed for tracking floors.

The Fitbit app still has a Floors tile to accommodate historical data from devices that had this feature and for the current Fitbits that have floor tracking.

As so many of us are disappointed in this product due to the missing floor counter, will there be updates to the charge 6 to activate the feature so we don’t have to buy a different product to have this feature?

Hi @kawood67 .  The altimeter is a piece of hardware.  It wasn't added to the Charge 5 or Charge 6.  It isn't a feature that can be added with an update.

There will not. This is hardware that was left out of the Charge 6, and you can’t update what’s not there.

So that's Googles response to this issue. A canned answer from what may or may not be a human being. Not even an explanation? How much money did you save buy deleting the altimeter. Why no offer to replace this piece of junk. You have alienated a lot of long time users who will not buy fitbit again. But you don't care because you have a pixel product coming out to compete with fitbit.

It works if you have certain models of Fitbit. They just dropped it from the Charge line without telling us, so the Google execs could make a few more bucks.

I don’t think anybody cares that they can HIDE it. Hiding is what Google did when they took it away.

Why wasn’t it “flagged” in their Advertising?

@rayruns5k   Product Experts aren’t Google employees.  We are real people who help fellow users.  Fitbit/Google added hardware to the Charge 5 and 6, namely the ECG and EDA.  I saw a video that showed a Charge 5 tear down.  I wish I bookmarked it.  The altimeter is a piece of hardware, too.  I didn’t see any way that it would fit and keep the Charge size and shape.  This is my opinion and I have no personal information about the decision.
