Charge 6 floor count

ANSWERED

I feel cheated as my new Fitbit charge 6 does not read the number of floors climbed whereas my old charge 2 worked perfectly. Why was this facility taken away I am extremely disappointed as this was partly the reason for updating to a newer model.

I'm so grateful to find your post.  You saved me from waisting my money upgrading my charge 3 to a 6.  The only reason I was look at a new model is because my charge 3 battery only lasts about 3-4 days.  It used to go a good 7 days.  I think I will just deal with charging it more often.

Hey Manu,

Please take a minute to review the FitBit 5 forum and respond to the shocking number of complaints regarding 5's crapping out just after their warranty has expired, and right after a software update.  No moderator has bothered to step in and clarify exactly what is going on.

Yes can you imagine the CEO of google goes for McDonalds burger and their are no onions in the latest improved hamburger. We never said the improved burger would have the same things in it. Why assume we will not be selling a down grade. Just upgraded from Charge 2 to 4 and not really sure that the 4 is as accurate in flights so maybe its am admition that the sensors are not as good nowdays.

Well, I have no need for GPS, don't want it even... not using Spotify via this and don't want to. Several other features, not interested in. Did like the floor count on my old fitbit... had no idea that it was GONE from Charge 6... disappointed. And now I know why it is not keeping track... It can't. Mostly a good device but the tradeoffs and other HAVE to log in with Google. Sure, Google wants the whole family of health tracking devices to be locked into the Google world, tracking everything and coaxing users to be locked into even more but can't be bothered to track floors on new models. And as usual, engineering and marketing decisions are NEVER explained... we just have to swallow whatever hype comes with even good products (not perfect, nothing is) and not have the deeper questions ever answered... like WHY did company XYZ decide to do XYZ? Yes, profits, money, sure BUT what things had to be jettisoned or made cheaper etc... and other reasons beside just streamlining and maximising the wallet to quarterly earnings conveyor belt.

So after a week with my new Charge, I was sorely disappointed to find my average floor count dropped from 50 a day to 0. Just dumbfounded that this feature was taken away. It will be returned and I'm definitely open to replacing my dying charge 3 with a competitor.

Exactly! It’s downright deceptive !!

If Floors are not counted why are they in the dashboard? Seems counterintuitive.

Hello @SarahWim

The Fitbit app has floors in the Activity section for those devices that track this activity and for users who previously had a device that tracked floors.

You can hide "Floors" by

  • Tap on the pencil icon in the upper right of the Today page.
  • Scroll to Activity
  • Scroll to Floors and tap on it to turn it off.
  • Tap Save in the upper right

Aftr years (10 years) of reading complaints on the Floor Count, i was happy to not have to look at the 2-3  floors i gotper week

I'm with you.  I had a Charge 4 that counted a multitude of floors when I went for walks on windy days.  However, it didn't count floors at all when I actually climbed them.  For instance, when I came up from the basement I would climb onto a chair and then lift my arm into the air in order to get the flight of stairs to show up on the Fitbit.  Not worth it.  The Charge 5 and Charge 6 state right in the description that they DON'T COUNT FLOORS.  Considering the number of complaints, people must be purchasing without reading the descriptions at all.

My biggest gripe has always been that they don't count steps unless your arms are really swinging.  My husband is in a wheelchair and he gets way more steps than I do when we are walking/rolling side by side at the store.  I get no recorded steps at all if I'm pushing him, or a grocery cart.  I quit complaining about it and just put my Fitbit into my pants pocket or an ankle strap when I'm going to be pushing something.  I've had 8 Fitbits over the years.  The ONLY Fitbit that I had that accurately counted steps was my first, the Fitbit One.

Ricsb65, I’ve also had to ‘upgrade’ to a Charge 6 and sadly just noticed that the floor count is missing 😔 I too expected to have all the same features as my old Charge 4.

  • @Gloria65 your experience makes sense. There are 2 things that have to happen for a floor to be counted.
  • There has to be a change in altitude of 10 feet
  • There is an unkown time limit that this 10 feet change needs to be within.

If your basement has 7 or eight foot ceilings than yes you will have to get your arm up higher. Or start your climb with the hand on the floor.

2 questions on the stair option:

1) why does it even show??? If it doesn't have a function don't show me!!!

2) since it's there and I can't use it give me the option to not show on my app...

Dumb dumb dumb... What was someone thinking... Oh yeah they weren't.

@LBHazen

1) It shows because all Fitbit devices share the same app. That includes devices that have the ability to count floors.

2) To remove Floors in your app, select the pencil in the upper right. Scroll down to Activity. Toggle Floors off. Select Save in the upper right.

Looking at the specs for the Charge 6, there is and never was mention of floor counting. Is it ok to blame Fitbit for the buyers failure to do a little research?

Doing a little research would possibly help from future disappointment

In 2013, knowing only one person with a fitbit, before I put $80 down on my first fitbit, I spent several weeks researching

Because my Charge 6 doesn't have stair count, I can't even see the stairs that where counted last week with the Pixel 2 watch

I felt I had done my research when I got my first fitbit Charge in 2017.
I'm not sure at that point I was particularly bothered about floor count
but having had it as a feature and found it interesting I would have liked
to still have it on my new fitbit. I didn't expect 7 years later to find
the fitbit had gone backwards!

Having decided to go with fitbit, all your history and data is then on an
app which can be downloaded via Google but I couldnt find a way to transfer
it to another brand so I felt bound to staying loyal to the fitbit even tho
I don't think they last as long as they should for the price.

So, even if I had realised it was missing this spec I might still, on
balance, have gone with the charge 6 but that wouldn't have meant I wasn't
disappointed that it no longer had the features I was used to.

I don't think it's fair to increase the price (currently abt £120 in the
UK) but reduce the specs of a newer and supposedly better and brighter
model in this age of technological advancement. However, now I know that
this can happen, I will definitely be more diligent in my research when I
need a new smart watch especially if this one only lasts a couple of years
again!
