Charge 6 sleep tracking wrong

About a year ago I posted on this issue, finally gave up and tossed by FB.  A couple of weeks ago I decided to give it another try and bought a new Charge 6.  I've been through all the previous suggestions but still have this issue:

The FB sleep tracking is wildly inaccurate.  Some nights it reports 'No data'.  Other nights it only reports an hour or two, even though I go to bed around 10:00 pm, fall right to sleep in just a matter of a few minutes, and don't get up until after 6:00 AM.  I usually have to get up twice to go to the bathroom, but still fall right to sleep when returning to bed.

Now, I can sort of understand that if I'm sleeping fitfully (even though I don't feel it) it might not record it as sleep, but last night it was just the opposite.  It recorded 3 different sleep periods, the last being from 4:56 AM to 6:47 AM.   But I did ***NOT*** sleep that entire period, as I had to get up to take the dog out shortly after 5:00 AM.  So, the FB said I was sleeping when I was actually up and taking the dog out.     ?!?!?!?!?!?!!

It's good to see you participating in the community @Stuckyville.

Thank you for taking the time to share with me this information regarding your Charge 6. I am sorry to hear about the challenges you're experiencing with your device.

Before considering other options, please confirm that your device is up to date.

Make sure your Fitbit is charged and that you have the latest version of the Fitbit app on your phone or tablet. Here are some things to know:

  • If you update your Fitbit device right as the day changes (at midnight), your step count might be wrong for a day.
  • Updates may take more than one hour to complete.
  • To keep the update loading, keep the Fitbit app running.

To update your Fitbit device:

  1. Open the Fitbit app with your Fitbit nearby.
  2. Tap the Today tab > Devices > your Fitbit device.
  3. Tap Update. (Tip: This is only available when there's an update available.
  4. Follow the directions on the screen and keep your Fitbit close to your phone tablet, or computer. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Fitbit app until the update is complete.

For other issues, refer to Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

Yes I've read the manual and done everything suggested.  It still insists I'm only getting a couple of hours of sleep per night -- if that.  Yesterday it said my sleep time was from 8:59 AM to 10:11 AM.  Hmm.  I got up at seven.  During the time it says I was sleeping, I was actually sitting on my couch reading a book.  Checking in with the Reddit/Fitbit group, I see that this problem is not uncommon.  Since sleep is actually a state of brain activity and the FB has no direct connection to the brain,  It would be nice to know exactly what sensors are involved in determining sleep, and how "sleep" is extrapolated from those sensors.  the official statement of "Sleep tracking uses body signals collected by your device to estimate your sleep metrics."  provides no useful information at all.

I truly understand your frustration and how you must be feeling about your device right now. That said, if you’ve already gone through the steps in the help articles and things still aren't working, please reach out to our Support team so they can take a closer look for you.

I suggest you take a look at this help article that has information about sleep stages and how your device tracks sleep.
